Add a Static Twitter Follow Me Badge to Your WordPress Blog

Twitter has proven to be an invaluable resource for communicating with your customers, fans, or friends.  If you have a blog then you should have a way of allowing visitors to start “following” you on Twitter.

Take a look at the right side of any page of my blog.  You will see a “Follow Me” badge that remains static even when you scroll up and down my pages.  I am fond of this badge because it doesn’t take up any real estate on my sidebar.

Adding a static Twitter badge like this to your blog is easy.  First, go to this page and fill out the details.  The form will then automatically spit out the code that you need to put in your site.

Once you have the code, add it to your site, just before the </body> tag.  If you are using WordPress, this is easily done by clicking on the “Editor” link in your WordPress admin’s left side nav.  From there, click on “footer” on the right side.  When the code for the footer appears, simply scroll all the way down and paste the Twitter badge code before the </body> tag.

If you are using WP Super Cache or any other cache plugin, you will either have to wait until the page re-caches or delete the existing cache files to see the badge in action.

That’s all there is to it!
