The key to making money online is solving problems. It doesn’t matter what niche you are in, people search the web for answers. The more answers you provide, the better you position yourself as an authority in your particular niche. As more and more people look to you for answers, the easier it is to convince them to buy what you are selling or recommending as an affiliate.
As an info marketer, it is important for you to know what the problems in your niche are having. You can speculate all you want, but it makes more sense to do a little research.
My main niche is the “make money online” niche, often referred to as MMO. I come up with content and solutions based on two things: 1) my personal experiences and 2) what others are complaining or asking questions about. One is harder than the other.
For years, I wanted to get a website into Google News. I recognized early on what an enormous traffic source this would be. I tried numerous times and failed to get accepted. There wasn’t much information about this topic anywhere online, so I had to use my own trial and error to eventually figure it out. In the end, it paid off. One after another, I was getting sites approved.
Once I had cracked the code, I decided to jot down my system and sell it as an eBook. I thought, “Surely, there are others that would want to know this info and even more people that don’t even have a clue they could be in Google News.” This was what I considered to be a “fresh topic”, as there was not a lot of info out there. My game plan was to educate people on the potential windfall Google News had to offer and then present them with a solution to getting in there.
The key to successfully marketing this eBook was to fill potential customers in on something they were missing out on and then swoop in with the magic solution to their new found problem.
What Are they Asking About?
This is a much easier method of finding content ideas. Being in the MMO niche, I frequent MMO chat forums to see what people are posting about. For me, forums like Warrior Forum and Digital Point are essential for finding out the pulse of the people. You should be looking for forums that pertain to the niche you market in. If you are in the weight loss niche, there are hundreds of forums you can peruse to find specific problems.
When using forums to find problems, you have a choice on going after the most common problems or what I call micro-problems. My example in the last section is a perfect example of a micro-problem. While there are hundreds or even thousands of posts asking how to get more traffic, there were only a few dozen asking about Google News.
Why do I go after the lessor of the problems? Because the competition is sure to be less than that of a widely common issue.
So, when looking for content or ideas for your next info product, it might be a good idea for you to dig deeper. Everybody wants a slimmer waist line and rock hard abs, but how many people are searching for ways to tighten up their chin? The answer is a lot, but certainly a lot less than those seeking the obvious.
